We are a secular think tank based in The Netherlands, founded in 2016. Our cause is to promote secular values in both politics and society. As globalization continues, our scope of efforts are not limited only to The Netherlands, but extend across borders. By publishing articles and books, and engaging in the public debate, we continuously aim to contribute to a peaceful society worldwide – to a secular society that is.
Secularism is the principle that church and state ought to be separated. In our view, it is the only political organisation that can guarantee a level playing field, for christians, muslims, hindu’s and atheists alike. Every religious doctrine implies a certain persective on how society ought to be and how its inhabitants ought to behave. If religious laws would be implemented, the result would be satisfying to none other than the legislator. In a secular state, man is still free to practise his religion. He cannot, however, impose his views unto others. Secularism, therefore, is the equilibrium that enables all groups to flourish. In a way, it’s a state of permanent truce. In an age of globalization, where different groups come in contact with another in an unprecedented frequent fashion, secularism is hardly a luxury – it’s a necessity.
